Teaching people to fly is not a typical church ministry, but then not every church has a pastor who's a pilot. John Jenkins, pastor at First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG), became a licensed pilot in 2002, which explains the aviation-themed activities hosted by the church.
The Aviation Ministry typically holds meetings on the first Saturday of the month, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the FBCG Ministry Center in Landover. The first part of the meeting is a discussion on an aviation topic, while the remaining time is spent on the flight simulators. Masks are encouraged but not required.
The ministry also sponsors an aviation job fair, academic training and fly days throughout the year. Check out the following meeting topics and events:
