A journalism major at the University of Maryland, Savannah Grooms aspires to cover politics in the future. She previously participated in the POLITICO Journalism Institute in Washington, D.C. Her articles have appeared in The Diamondback campus newspaper as well as in local media in her hometown.
As a student reporter in the UMD Local News Network, Savannah has helped small newsrooms like The Bowie Sun and Bowie Banner to provide quality community journalism. She has written about elections, a local business and a food forest in the Bowie area.
As a UMD Banneker/Key Scholar, Savannah is passionate about diversity and inclusion in the news media and serves as a student DEI coordinator in the UMD school of journalism. She also has gained experience in the field of communications as one of the youngest interns for AARP and a student moderator for the nonpartisan League of Women Voters in Prince George's County.
