David Gregory Moyer, 62, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2026, after a long illness. Born on December 5, 1963, in Bowie, he was the first grandchild on his mother’s side of the family, a role that brought much excitement and celebration.
Dave is survived by his parents, Mary Moyer Smith and Gregory Joseph Moyer; his stepmother Pat Hepler Moyer; his sister, Julianne Moyer; his brother, Jeffrey Moyer; his stepsister, Trudy Stanek; and his stepbrother, Brian Hepler. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Andrew Smith, and his stepbrother, Charles “Chuck” Andrew Smith.
Educated in business, Dave began his bookkeeper career in the federal government, and then switched to the private sector including a home‑improvement business and a commercial printing and document‑services company.
On October 4, 2004, Dave married Tina Marie Lutman in Wilkes‑Barre, Pennsylvania, and together they made their home in Bowie. Tina Marie passed away on December 3, 2022.
A man of many talents, Dave was a lifelong bass guitarist, performing Classic Rock and Country Rock and appearing in trendy Washington, D.C. venues during the 1990s, including the BBQ Iguana and the original 9:30 Club. He recorded original music at the nationally recognized Omega Studios in Rockville, Maryland. He was also an avid photographer and amateur historian with a special interest in historic breweries and train stations. He took considerable pride in his collections of beer cans, pub memorabilia, coins, and stamps; hobbies that brought him enjoyment throughout his life. Dave combined his interests in producing his self‑published book American Breweries of the Past, contributing photographs himself and completing the editing before its release in October 2009. He dedicated the book to his father, Gregory Moyer.
In accordance with Dave’s wishes, a small private ceremony will be held.
