The City of Bowie is seeking passionate writers to apply for the honorary position of City of Bowie Poet Laureate. This civic role celebrates and promotes poetry, literature, and spoken word while fostering meaningful connections across the community—including youth. The Poet Laureate will create original work, participate in City events, lead literary activities, and serve as an advocate for the literary arts in Bowie.

Applicants must be Bowie residents 18 or older and demonstrate literary excellence and community involvement. The 15-month term runs from April 2026 through June 2027, with a commitment of approximately 2–3 events per month and an honorarium of up to $1500 per term. The Poet Laureate will be officially recognized by the Mayor and City Council and featured on the City’s website and in a press release.

Writers of all styles are encouraged to apply. Applications open February 2 and close March 2.
