Council Member Watson encourages residents who need reusable bags to visit one of the giveaway events. “Our retail stores no longer provide plastic bags, and there are residents who may need help adjusting to this new normal,” said Council Member Watson. “I want to make the transition to reusable bags easier by providing a sustainable alternative. The reusable bag distribution event offers residents the opportunity to secure high-quality eco-friendly bags designed to withstand daily use – free of charge. This is our way of supporting the community and inviting others to join us in our mission to create a cleaner, greener District 4.”CB-032-2023, Better Bag Bill legislation approved by the Council last year, incentivizes the use of reusable bags by prohibiting single-use plastic carryout bags and requiring retailers to charge at least 10 cents per bag. The measure went into effect on January 1, 2024.
