The Bowie Police Department will soon have work space and walk-in hours at Bowie Town Center when the police "community corner" opens there April 15. The Bowie Police Information Center will be staffed by sworn officers and volunteers, according to the city of Bowie newsletter.

The concept of police satellite locations at shopping centers isn't new. Montgomery County Police opened a community liaison room at Westfield Montgomery Mall last year and a police substation opened at Arundel Mills Mall in 2015.

Bowie Police often hosted Coffee With a Cop at the Bowie Town Center Starbucks, an opportunity for officers to share information directly with citizens and answer their questions. The Bowie Police Information Center, opening across from Barnes & Noble, will provide a more permanent space to engage with citizens on topics such as the department's hiring process and crime prevention.

For service calls, citizens should call 9-1-1 in an emergency or 240-544-5700 in non-emergency situations.
