Liberty Sports Park is more than just a collection of 10 athletic fields. It is expected to be a "sports vacation destination" with hotels, restaurants and retail planned at the adjacent South Lake development in Bowie.

The sports fields will be available to Prince George's County Public Schools, Prince George's Community College and local Boys and Girls clubs. 

The state of Maryland committed nearly $15 million to support the complex, while Prince George’s County Government leased the land to the nonprofit Green Branch Foundation. The nonprofit committed to securing donations and sponsorships to cover maintenance, operation and capital costs.
