Teaching people to fly is not a typical church ministry, but then not every church has a pastor who's a pilot. John Jenkins, pastor at First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG), became a licensed pilot in 2002, which explains the aviation-themed activities hosted by the church.
The Aviation Ministry sponsors an aviation job fair, academic training and fly days throughout the year. The next fly day takes place June 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Potomac Airfield in Fort Washington. The fly day is open to all ages. Take a back-seat or front-seat ride!
- Register by June 15: https://forms.gle/7MTUagvRKqYUnXiN7
- Cost: $70
- Fly day participants will be informed of any weather-related changes.
- No day-of arrivals
If you miss fly day, practice on a flight simulator during the monthly Aviation Ministry meetings. The meetings typically take place on the first Saturday of the month, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the FBCG Ministry Center in Landover. The first part of the meeting is a discussion on an aviation topic, while the remaining time is spent on the flight simulators.
