The Bowie Stamp Club, a community organization since 1965, has recently resumed its full schedule of activities following an 18-month hiatus due to COVID-19 concerns.
The club meets each Thursday night (except major holidays) throughout the year at the Kenhill Center (old City Hall). Stamp collectors from around the area begin arriving around 6 p.m. for general socializing and stamp trading, followed by a formal meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Each monthly meeting includes formal presentations by club members or guests, stamp auctions, presentation of new acquisitions, news of upcoming events, contests, stamp identifications and technical instruction as needed.
Collectors of all ages are invited to attend:
- For younger or novice collectors, inexpensive (sometimes free) stamps are normally available, and experts who have collected for decades are eager to teach you the skills.
- For persons wishing to sell a collection or accumulation of stamps, you can offer to sell for a fixed price, or put the collection up for auction to the highest bidder (after you declare a minimum bid to start).
- For Scouts seeking the stamp collecting merit badge, all the information and expert advice you need is available.
So if it's Thursday evening, drop by to see what stamp collecting is all about. For club members, stamp collecting has brought years of enjoyment, relaxation, knowledge and friendship. For inquiries: (410) 757-2601.
