The Northern Prince George's County Republican Club typically meets once a month and features a guest speaker.
The invited speakers for March 15 are College Park Mayor Pro Tem Denise Mitchell and Jonathan Briggs, a member of the nonpartisan Prince George's County Board of Education. The meeting is open to the public.
According to the club newsletter, Mitchell is expected to discuss the May 6 special election due to the abrupt resignation earlier this month of former College Park Mayor Patrick Wojahn. His resignation letter dated March 2 came the night before he was arrested on 56 counts of child pornography.
Briggs represents District 2 on the school board (College Park, Greenbelt and Riverdale). His district includes several lottery and specialty programs with students from other districts:
- College Park Academy Public Charter
- Dora Kennedy French Immersion
- Eleanor Roosevelt High School (science and technology program)
- Paint Branch Elementary and Greenbelt Middle School (partial Chinese Immersion)
