Chik-fil-A at Bowie Marketplace will take part in National Drive Thru Day July 23, from 12 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.  Stop by for treats, gift card giveaways and pictures with the mascot.

The day commemorates the first drive-thru:

• According to history.com, the idea of drive-ins started in 1921 when "carhops" would serve food to customers in their parked vehicles. Next, came the drive-thru window created in 1931. 
• Later in 1948, In-N-Out Burger in California added intercoms and McDonald's underwent a redesign as a drive-in, according to their corporate websites.
